Abstract
In the Laboratory of Biocolloids and Biointerfaces, our goal is to explore the fundamental nature of biocolloids and biointerfaces, and to apply this knowledge to biomedical and clinical practices through an interdisciplinary and translational approach. This seminar will introduce our recent research from three interrelated perspectives. 1. Thermodynamic understanding of surface free energy; 2. Bioinstrumentation for studying lung surfactants; 3. Development of new method for sorting cells.
Short Bio
Prof. Yi Zuo earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 2006. He is currently a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics in John A. Burns School of Medicine. Before joining UHM, he was a NSERC postdoctoral fellow in the Departments of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Ob/Gyn at the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Zuo's research interests are focused on general areas of colloid and surface science and their applications to areas of biomedical and biotechnological interest. In recognition of his work, Prof. Zuo received the NSF CAREER Award in 2013.
